At Ardrossan Academy we offer the Scottish Baccalaureate in Science to S6 pupils. The Baccalaureate provides a challenging and rewarding experience for candidates in fifth and sixth year of secondary school. It is based on a group of subjects at Higher and Advanced Higher level with the addition of the Interdisciplinary Project aimed at developing the skills, attitudes and confidence necessary to make the transition into Higher Education and/or employment.
Requirements
The Scottish Science Baccalaureate requires completion of 2 advanced higher courses and one higher course. One of these components must be Maths but the components can be completed over 2 academic years. The combination of subjects chosen must include 2 sciences, one of these must be at advanced higher level.

Broadening Courses – Computing Science, Design & Manufacture, Geography, Graphic Communication

2019 will be the 3rd year that Ardrossan Academy has offered the Science Baccalaureate to S6 pupils.The topics covered by our candidates have been very different and reflect their choices for education or work after school.
2017 - Powering the Ardrossan Allotments. A project looking at the use of renewable energy in the community.
2018- Smoking vs Vaping. This project investigated the misconceptions surrounding vaping as a "healthy option".
2019 - Astro-mining. One of our candidates investigated the issue of endangered metals and the possibilities of mining in space.
- Nuclear Fusion. Will this be the future of energy generation and can it shake off the stigma attached to nuclear energy.

Presentation of the Baccalaureate can take different formats. Candidates can use a formal presentation, produce a poster or leaflet for information or even teach a class. These photos show some examples of work carried out by our candidates and pupils during Baccalaureate presentations.
